Financial Considerations - Making Treatment Affordable

Given the relative absence of insurance reimbursement for in vitro fertilization (IVF), the Sher Institutes for Reproductive Medicine strive to make IVF more affordable to everyone that needs it.  To this end, we have developed a number of IVF package plans and financing options to bring treatment within reach of all of our patients.  The various options are outlined briefly below.  Contact your nearest SIRM office for more information on any of the plans or options listed below.

IVF Risk Sharing Plans

SIRM's risk sharing IVF plan, now called the Have a Baby Plan (HBP) has shifted the focus from the cost of undergoing IVF, to where it should be: the cost of having a baby. The HBP provides qualified women/couples up to 3 cycles of IVF for a single fee, with a significant refund if treatment does not result in a live birth.

Two Cycle Plan

This plan offers up to 2 cycles of IVF for a single fee, substantially less than 2 individual IVF cycles.

The Access Plan

To help make IVF more affordable for patients/couples on limited incomes (<$55k/yr.), SIRM offers a discounted package price payment plan called the Access Plan.

Military Access Plan (MAP)

The MAP makes IVF more accessible and affordable to men and women in active military status.

Teachers Access Plan (TAP)

The TAP makes IVF more accessible and affordable to men and women who are full time teachers.

Insurance Reimbursement

Insurance companies usually do not regard IVF/embryo transfers (ET) as a reimbursable medical procedure. A few states have mandated partial or complete coverage for infertility treatments. Other states are considering similar legislation. Often, insurance companies will cover certain diagnostic or preparatory treatments.  SIRM participates with most insurance carriers.  Contact your local SIRM office for a list of participating providers.

Medical Financing

You may qualify for medical financing available at reasonable rates through third party financing organizations.  Medical financing allows payments to be made over a number of years.  Contact your SIRM center for information about companies that offer IVF financing.
